D.A.R.E Essay

Cody Lester

In D.A.R.E I have learned many things and what I learned in D.A.R.E. I was very surprise at what I learned and I couldn’t believe that it was true. We also did fun things in D.A.R.E that I would like to do again. D.A.R.E has also help me make good choices because now that I know what drugs can really do to you, I decided that you are not cool if you do drugs.

In D.A.R.E I learned how dangerous marijuana can be. Did you know that the people who smoke marijuana have an increased risk of getting cancer than the people who smoke tobacco. Marijuana can also effect the person’s brain and body and that isn’t good if the person is driving because a person who wasn’t using marijuana can get hurt really badly.

Now I’m going to talk about tobacco, tobacco can kill over 400,000 people each year and smoking tobacco is the #1 cause of lung cancer. When you see someone talking you can sometimes see that the person has yellow teeth from smoking too much tobacco. Cigarette smoke has 200 known poisons in it and 7% of 8th graders smoke cigarette.

The skills that I have learned is to Avoid a bad situation. Avoid a bad situation means to avoid a bunch of people smoking in one group. Strength in Numbers where your going through an area where you know there are going to be drug users. Other skills I have learned is Walking away and the Cold shoulder. Walking away means that when a person ask if you want some beer, you just say no while you are walking away. The Cold shoulder means that when a person ask if you want to smoke marijuana you just ignore them. These skills are called Staying Out of Risky Situations.

The next skills I’m gonna talk about is Getting Out of Risky Situations. The two first ones I’m gonna talk about is Saying “NO” and Giving a reason or a fact. Saying “NO” means to just say no when someone ask you if you want a drink. Giving a reason or a fact means to give a fact about marijuana if someone ask you if you want to smoke marijuana. The other three are Changing the subject, Skipping CD, and Use Humor. Changing the subject means to talk about something else after someone ask if you want a beer. Skipping CD means to say no over and over again after someone ask you if you want to smoke. Use Humor means to say something funny. My pledge statement is that I’m never ever gonna smoke cigarettes, never gonna drink, never gonna smoke marijuana, I’m never gonna do any kind of drug.
